Frustrated as being seen only as a black candidate, Jackson took steps in April 1986 to formally establish his Rainbow Coalition, which he billed as a Progressive force within the Democratic Party, based on the needs of a wide variety of constituents. The cartoonist suggests that an emphasis on black problems will continue to dominate his program.
